Kate Chopin was the controversial writer of The Awakening, a novel
about which I shall not go into detail, for fear of rightful
censor-bots.. Her writing style was considered
risqué for
the day, and she suffered for it. Chopin was originally from
Missouri, and there she died, but her former home in Cloutierville,
Louisiana is open to the public. Most of the furnishings and
other items were not there in Kate's time; nevertheless, they are
interesting in their own right, and provide an intriguing
look
into the past.
Some of you may have been required (or will be required) to read "The
Story of an Hour." Kate Chopin wrote that story.
There is
something about touring the home of the writer that somehow heightens
the interest, thereby enhancing the course! Consider visiting
her
home in Cloutierville, Louisiana.
