Louisiana Surprise

Today, we took an impromptu trip to central Louisiana and hiked in the woods of Kisatchie. I've lived all my life in Louisiana, and had never been there! Well, we took the 1.5 mile hiking trail, which I believe is the shortest.

It is not typical Louisiana scenery. In Louisiana, I don't usually see buttes and bluffs. Of course, it is on a smaller scale, but fun nonetheless. Walking up and down the rock stairs and trails, I became a little out of breath. My husband said, "We don't have to go all the way; we can go back now, if you want." I said, "Nah, let's go ahead." So, on we went, and we were rewarded with unexpected scenery, including a small rocky waterfall. It is a worthwhile trip.

I am posting three pictures below. They are all under 50k. Scroll below the pictures for a link to Kisatchie's website.

This cave is under a bridge, and there is no warning. If I hadn't decided to walk down the stone steps that lead behind the bridge, I would have never seen this little cave. It appears to be at least partially man-made, although there is much rock in Kisatchie.

Of course, pictures never do a view justice. If you're looking for huge, majestic mountains that take your breath away, go to Colorado. If you are a Louisianian (or any other anian) who has never been to Kisatchie, you'll be pleasantly surprised that such a thing lies in Louisiana.
